Upfit Engineering Supervisor

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE: As the Engineering Supervisor you will be responsible for leading, coaching, and mentoring the engineering team at a class 7-8 chassis body builder focused on upfitting trucks for snow and ice removal. The supervisor will work closely with the engineering team to ensure that all design and operation support needs are met.

  • Partner with Chassis OEMs (Freightliner, International, Western Star, etc) to optimize chassis configurations for our integration with the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers responsible for designing and supporting the manufacturing of snow and ice removal trucks.
  • Collaborate with shop floor associates to identify and implement long-term solutions to recurring production issues, optimizing efficiency and minimizing downtime.
  • Work directly with operations leaders to develop manufacturing plans to support daily and monthly output goals.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies and processes to improve product quality, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness at our upfit centers.
  • Identify, initiate, and implement continuous improvement solutions for process optimization, cost reduction, and yield enhancements across multiple Upfit locations.
  • Evaluate team members and create individual development and training plans that meet company and team member goals. Coach and conduct performance and development discussions as needed.? Mentor staff to ensure future growth.
  • Create timelines and detailed project plans as required to meet project deadlines and work with team to expand project management skills
  • Work with Director of Engineering to establish and continuously refresh metrics for Upfits Engineering to drive growth and improvement.
  • Work in a safe manner and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Follow Douglas Dynamic’s rules regarding work and conduct.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS:

  • Technological skills required with prior experience in solid modeling and ERP softwares.
  • Organizational, detail, and follow-up skills
  • Proven Communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple situations at one time
  • A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Ability to lead and manage change in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • 3-7 years engineering work history with increasing level of responsibilities
